Regarding the Rebranding Opening

Q

What changes have been made from Hotel Yakushima?

A
  • "Standard Twin" rooms have been renovated with "shower booths" and "separate toilets" instead of unit baths.
  • There are no "bathtubs" in the rooms, so please use the 1st-floor natural hot spring large communal bath with flowing water from the source.
  • When used by three (or four) guests, instead of an extra bed, a queen-size (W1600×H2000) sofa bed will be available.
  • The number of "Onsen Suite" rooms where you can enjoy hot springs in your room has been increased to four.
  • There are no Japanese-style rooms available. Including "Onsen Suite" rooms, all rooms are Western-style (bed type).
  • The rooms have been made easier to stay in with the elimination of steps inside.
  • Body care services are not provided. Please use the massage chairs on the 1st floor.
  • A new lounge has been established where you can enjoy unique beverages from Yakushima and a magnificent view.

  • There are three types of rooms.
  • There are “Onsen Suite” rooms with scenic view hot springs (total of 4 rooms), and “Standard Twin” rooms that face either the sea or the mountains (total of 38 rooms).

  • You can view the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean. Please enjoy the horizon stretching far into the distance and the magnificent sunsets and sunrises.
  • In the winter, it is possible to observe whales.

  • You can view the majestic mountains of Yakushima, such as Mt. Mocchomu (940m), which partially lies within the World Natural Heritage site.

What does "maximum 3 adults recommended" mean?

  • The room has two beds and one sofa bed. When used by four guests, the queen-size (W1600×H2000) sofa bed is shared by two people.
  • Although the sofa bed can accommodate up to two people, the sleeping space often becomes cramped, hence we recommend a maximum of three guests per room.

What is Yakushima Onsen?

A
  • It is a natural hot spring that flows directly from a source 800 meters underground.
  • The water is an alkaline simple hot spring, with specific therapeutic benefits for conditions such as insomnia, fatigue recovery, and health promotion.
  • The source temperature is relatively low at 34.5 degrees Celsius, so heating is done by circulation, but no water is added at all.

    It’s a very hot spring with a source temperature of 49°C. Enjoy the difference from the "Yakushima Onsen" attached to the hotel. The source itself is different from Yakushima Onsen.
  • Hirauchi Kaichu Onsen: About 15 minutes by car (about 8 km) Suggested contribution: 200 yen (Bathing is only possible for about 2 hours around low tide twice a day.)
    It is mixed-gender, with no changing rooms, and you change behind rocks. Bathing in swimsuits or underwear is not allowed, but wearing a bath towel wrap or Yuamigi (a special onsen wear) is fine.
  • Yudomari Onsen: About 15 minutes by car (about 9 km) Suggested contribution: 200 yen (Bathing available 24 hours)
    There is only a token divider between the men's and women's bathing areas. Bathing in swimsuits or underwear is not allowed.
    Wearing a bath towel wrap or Yuamigi (a special onsen wear) is fine. Only the detached bath located about 30 meters away allows wearing swimsuits.

  • All flights use propeller planes with very limited seating, so we recommend making reservations early.

If I use ferries, what are the routes?

  • "Ferry Yakushima 2" (Orita Kisen) connects Kagoshima Main Port with Miyanoura Port in about 4 hours one way.
    The departure from Kagoshima Main Port is at 8:30, and the arrival at Miyanoura Port is at 12:30.
    The departure from Miyanoura Port is at 13:30, and the arrival at Kagoshima Main Port is at 17:40. It is possible to load cars, motorcycles, and bicycles. However, advance reservation is required for loading cars.
    It is susceptible to bad weather, so extra time in the schedule is necessary.
  • "Ferry Hibiscus" (Kagoshima Shosen) connects Kagoshima (Taniyama Port) with Miyanoura Port, taking 13 hours for the outward journey and 6 hours for the return journey.
    The departure from Kagoshima Main Port is at 18:00, and the arrival at Miyanoura Port the next morning at 07:00.
    The departure from Miyanoura Port is at 08:10, and the arrival at Kagoshima Main Port is at 14:40.
    It is possible to load cars, motorcycles, and bicycles. (Advance reservation is required for loading cars.)

If I use high-speed jetfoil, what are the routes?

  • Based in Kagoshima Main Port, the jetfoils "Toppy & Rocket" operated by Tane Yaku High-speed Jetfoil run about five round trips per day.
  • The travel time is about 2 hours and 30 minutes for the route via Tanegashima and about 2 hours for the direct route. It is the most resistant to bad weather, so it is recommended.

  • The departure and arrival port for the jetfoil "Toppy & Rocket" and Orita Kisen Ferry "Yakushima 2."
  • It takes about 50 minutes by limousine bus from Kagoshima Airport and about 15 minutes by bus or taxi from Kagoshima Chuo Station.
  • It is also possible to walk from Tenmonkan, taking about 5-10 minutes.

What are the transportation options to Kagoshima Taniyama Port?

  • The departure and arrival port for Kagoshima Shosen Ferry "Hibiscus."
  • Please use the bus going to “Nanatsujima 1-chome” (Line 5, Oroshihonmachi-Nanatsujima 1-chome line). There is only one service: departs Kagoshima Chuo Station at 15:48 and arrives at Kagoshima (Taniyama Port) at 16:34.
  • Other transportation options include: “Sun Life Pool Mae” Bus Stop (about 300 meters, walkable), “Kagehara” Bus Stop (about 1.5 km), and JR Sakanoue Station (3 km, taxi recommended).

What are the transportation options from Yakushima Airport or the port to the hotel?

  • There is no shuttle service from Yakushima Airport or the port to the hotel.
  • As there are several tourist spots along the way to the hotel, we recommend coming by rental car or taxi while sightseeing.
  • There is also a local bus that runs about once an hour. There is a bus stop next to the hotel's main entrance (bus stop name: samana hotel Yakushima).

Can I take a bus to the hotel?

  • There is a bus stop for Yakushima Kotsu Bus "No. 97" next to the main entrance of the hotel (bus stop name: samana hotel Yakushima).
  • Buses run about once an hour from Yakushima Airport and the ports. The fare from the airport is 1,030 yen per adult, from Miyanoura Port it is 1,410 yen per adult, and from Anbo Port it is 660 yen per adult.
  • Please note that IC cards other than Iwasaki IC card and RapiCa cannot be used on the bus, and high denomination bills cannot be exchanged on board.

  • Please transfer to the Arakawa Mountain Bus at the "Yakusugi Museum". The round-trip fare for the Arakawa Mountain Bus is 2,000 yen per adult. (The Arakawa Mountain Bus is not covered by the unlimited ride ticket.)
  • Arakawa Mountain Bus tickets can be purchased at tourist information centers and "Yakusugi Museum" bus stops.
  • Please note that the Arakawa Mountain Bus does not operate from December to February. Arrangements for rental cars or taxis are necessary in advance.

What is the Arakawa Mountain Bus?

  • It operates from Yakusugi Museum to the Arakawa Trail Entrance. The round-trip fare is 2,000 yen per adult (The Arakawa Mountain Bus is not covered by the unlimited ride ticket.).
  • From March to November, entry of private vehicles to the Arakawa Trailhead is restricted. Please use the Arakawa Mountain Bus during this period.
  • From December to February, the Arakawa Mountain Bus does not operate, so please use a private car or taxi to reach the trailhead.
  • Some tours may use a private charter bus to travel to the Arakawa Trail Entrance. (Please inquire with the tour company.)

  • "Nagata Inakahama Beach," "Kuriohama Beach," and "Isso Beach" are famous as sea turtle nesting sites.
  • You can observe spawning from mid-May to mid-July and hatchlings from late July to early-September.
    At "Nagata Inakahama Beach," participation in a "Sea Turtle Observation Meeting" is required to avoid negatively impacting the sea turtle nesting environment.
  • Please refrain from entering the beach at night (from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am the following morning) for the purpose of protecting the sea turtles.

  • The full amount of the bathing tax is remitted to the town of Yakushima.

  • From guests staying at "samana hotel Yakushima," we collect 200 yen per adult per stay, and the donations are used for nature conservation in Yakushima, community contributions, and support during disasters.
